St Michael's Church, Ipoh, (Altar Servers)
INTRODUCTION
Altar servers have always been part of a church organisation and St Michael's Church, Ipoh is no different.
We have a new Parish Priest now as of November 2010. He is Mgr Stephen Liew. We welcome him warmly and look forward to the new fresh wind in the Parish. In the short space of time he has been here, the altarservers are going to have a camp on the 5th, 6th and 7th of Dec 2010. What a breath of fresh air for the altarservers after a long 4 years without a formation camp. The facilitators are non other than Mgr Stephen Liew and Martin Jalleh.
The altar servers group is possibly the first SMC parish group to have a presence on the web. We have been online since November 2007.It would be good if other church organisations have individual webpages linked to the dedicated St Micheal's Curch website.
For years, altar servers have come and gone with no records of their service. They were anonymous, except for some photos. With the creation of this webpage, we hope to record in photos their roles as altar servers. We hope that those with old photos depicting early church activity will contact us so that we can scan the photos for inclusion later.
This webpage will hopefully be a page of reference and guide to new and old servers.

The map below shows Ipoh in 1920. Note the course of the Kinta River, the area around St Michael's Church, the Convent, and SMI. Click on the map for a larger map view.
Many of the roads have been re-routed or no longer exist. Some roads did not exist in 1920. In places, the main roads were serviced by ferries to facilitate crossing the Kinta River. Many of the buildings marked on the map are still standing today. One of the most facinating aspects of Ipoh were the numerous buildings which showed Masonic influence. At least two buildings in Ipoh show clear Masonic designs.
To the new alterservers, a BIG WELCOME.
